Could You Handle the Sacrifice?

Disclaimer: Prepare yourself, this is a "sensitive moment" kind of post!

Many images and memories rush through my head when I'm at a funeral. I have unfortunately lost several key people in my 25 years... And as anyone that has experienced a loss (big or small) can testify, this is not an easy part of life. The worst was losing my mother a few short months after I graduated from high school. Though this pain never goes away (I'm apologize to anyone that wants to believe differently) you eventually become "numb" to this pain.

This past week brought another loss to my family, which is why I decided to venture this morbid topic with a new twist. What would you be willing to sacrifice for a long life? Would you be willing to become extremely ugly physically if it meant you would live for 1,000 years at any physical age you chose? What a terrible question! My answer??

Absolutely not! I don't say this out of vanity, but out of the thoughts that such a long life bring to mind. Don't get me wrong, living for 1,000 years and witnessing so many changes for society would be amazing! Seeing all of the world's delights and experiencing everything it had to offer would be unbelievable. But wouldn't this get boring after a while? More importantly, why would I want to live for 1,000 years and watch every person I love die? I don't think I could envision anything more heartbreaking. As hard as it is to think about, loss is a part of life for everyone. Living in a world without my loved ones is a terrifying and unbearable thought. First of all, who would be here to tease the hell out of me?! Now THAT would be boring!

What about you? Would you be able to make the sacrifice?

Guess Who's Coming To Blog?

"Okay! Back to work everyone! We don't have much time before the curtain call here, no more games guys!" I worry about them when I'm not here... hmmm... AHH!! Animal, what are you doing with that thing?! Put down the blowtorch!! Sheesh... how am I supposed to get any work done around here?! Okay, I need to go over this schedule for tonight... So first I have to meet Miss... (Interrupted) "Hey, where are the new costumes again?" "I've told you three times, dressing room four, down the hall there!" Geez... Where was I... Okay so uhh... uhh... oh yes, dinner with her at 5pm... Boy I wish there was a way I could get out of it... She's just so demanding and stubborn! There really isn't time to go out to a nice dinner tonight! Hmm... Oh well, as long as it makes her happy. So after dinner we-we-we... we need to rush back to clean up this backstage area and the theater; since I know everyone else will forget to! Then time to change into costumes, which leaves uhh, just enough time for a...for a... uhh, last minute costume checks before showtime! Perfect! Boy, I just wish these shows went a little smoother! And no one got hurt! Hmm... (Yelled from the stage) "Hey! What do you think you're doing?! You're not the boss of me! Let go!"  "Oh Schnookums!?!!?!! These so called 'back-up dancers' are trying to take over my number! Get them out of here!" Sheesh... So much for alone time!

"You know you missed the boat when... Finding Nemo costs you $1400!"

Sitting in the chaotic and bone-chilling "cupboard" I call my room (its only about 5 degrees warmer than outside) I fight to keep my brain on my reading assignment, Thomas More's Utopia, and not the vacation I wish I was saying Bon Voyage from! Why not venture back to my latest and greatest vacation then? Memory-lane is the perfect solution to cutting down on some stress when I'm overworked...

My most recent cruise was with my  17 co-workers, which was an amazingly great time! I will admit that we were the loud and slightly obnoxious group in the customs line; the ones that you're secretly wondering if they will actually let such rascals on board! Amazing...
What made this trip all the more unique was that two of my co-workers missed the boat as we left our first port. I don't mean that as an expression, but in the literal "they missed the boat" sense! Allow me to elaborate.

Our excursion in Costa Maya, Mexico was basically a free reign of a beach and free drinks all day... For anyone that knows us, this was better than Christmas morning! When it was time to leave this glorious place we took the bus back to the port; though some of us had to wait for the second bus back. My co-workers were told several times exactly when the ship left for the Cayman islands. I feel I should mention these guys were 21 and 27 at the time... Long story short, we're all back on the ship when suddenly we hear a squawk come over the loud speaker looking for our two co-workers! The mini-snorkel adventure ended up costing the lost voyagers $1400! They had to travel from Costa Maya to Cancun, to Miami, and finally meet us in Grand Caymen two days later... Not exactly ideal!

This trip had many fantastic experiences, but this takes the cake every time! This definitely is a vacation I will never forget!

New Year's Resolution: Take out the Arch Nemesis!

Despite the constant reminders of New Year's Resolutions that all my family and friends are desperately trying to keep, I decided that stress is my number one arch nemesis; and therefore, must be dealt with immediately! Who wouldn't be stressed in today's chaotic society?! The economy is in the toilet and seems to like it there, there's always an increase in the terror alert level, and 2009 did nothing but take away icons and mentors from us! Who wouldn't be afraid of the world today when you can't get a job unless you finish/go back to school (which no one can afford anymore because of tuition increases) and even then, there's no guarantee! Fabulous!

But reminding myself of this just creates deeper knots for my masseuse to work out (wish I could still afford such services) so I digress... As an almost professional student I should be best friends with stress by now, but when stress has you by the textbooks you tend to get a bit overworked, overtired, bitchy, and generally unable to enjoy the little things in life! This blog is dedicated to pretty much anything I feel like getting off my chest at the moment, whether that be a crazy day story, funny things that are often overlooked, or just topics I hope will help me de-stress and live every moment of life as "My precious"! And that's not a "Lord of the Rings" reference per say, it just fits!

We shouldn't waste our precious time and energy! We should enjoy every minute, every experience, every lesson, every photograph, every laugh, and every tear. That is my resolution, though I cringe at calling it that because I never keep them; yet this one I really NEED to keep! So kick back and enjoy the ride. And in the event that you don't, by all means... Don't Waste Your Precious!
